World Poetry Day / 2026

Skibbereen Library

We are celebrating the upcoming World Poetry Day by exhibiting a series of sketches from our club members illustrating selected poems or self written kaikus. We are proud to have gather a collection of work which can be viewed in Skibbereen Library, starting this Saturday, 21st of March. The display will be on for the next two weeks.

The annual World Poetry Day was established by UNESCO on March 21st in 1999 with the aim of promoting linguistic diversity through poetic expression. National Library of Ireland

One of the highlights of our West Cork Sketch Club display will be the illustrated haikus of the poem Thirteen ways of looking at a blackbird by Wallace Stevens. This project was done with black ink on white cards using free flow sketching, some sketches embed the words of the verse, while others use monoprints of natural materials https://www.instagram.com/p/DWCWOglDbAS/
